Papercutz to Publish First American Power Rangers Comic since 1997

Europe has been enjoying an original Power Rangers comic strip since the early 2000s, but America is only now getting its first Power Rangers comic book since the 1997 one-shot from Acclaim.

The new Power Rangers comic book will be released by graphic novel publisher NBM through their PaperCutz imprint, and will feature original stories made for the comic, instead of adapting episodes from the Nickelodeon series.

The first volume, entitled Power Rangers Super Samurai: Memory Short, is planned to have 50 pages, and will be out in both hardcover and paperback versions on June 27, 2012. The story will be written by Stefan Petrucha, who has written a series of Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew graphic novels for Papercutz in the past.

Free Comic Book: The Avengers and VISA team up

The Avengers are a bit of a hot property right now. There’s their new feud with the X-Men, and then there’s the new Marvel Universe programming block on Disney XD. Of course, there’s also the Avengers movie. But one of the more oddball uses of the Avengers franchise is “Saving The Day”, which is a FREE comic book sponsored by VISA that aims to teach children basic and practical money skills.

The comic book also features Spider-man, and together with Avengers members Iron Man, Giant Man, Black Widow, Hulk, and Thor, they serve as the perfect vehicle to teach the usually boring (for kids, at least) subject of financial literacy. Kids are more receptive of lessons when taught by role models that are entertaining and colorful, it seems.
