Doctor Who: Time of the Doctor Review (Spoiler-Free)

Just finished watching Time of the Doctor. I know how the Internet hates spoilers so I'm not going to bother providing spoilery details, just the bits that are already known to everyone:

First things first - it ties up all the loose ends that managed to crop up during Moffat's run, including ones that he accidentally brought up while addressing loose ends from previous showrunners. Off the top of my head, the issue with how many regenerations he's had so far (and yes, he's run out of regenerations by the time he turned into the 11th doctor, as for how he managed to regenerate one more time into Peter Capaldi's doctor - you'll just have to watch), who really blew up the TARDIS, what happened to the cracks, what the Silences really are, and how the doctor died on Trenzalore. There are others, but the resolutions happen so fast that you really need to just watch the special on your own while keeping an open eye.

The Time of the Doctor special actually plays out like your typical Christmas special at first, with the Doctor helping Clara cook Christmas Turkey and pretending to be her boyfriend while wearing hologram clothes that only Clara sees (so technically, clara brought home a naked doctor and presented him as her boyfriend to her parents and grandmum.)

90s X-Men Cartoon Intro in Stop-Motion

The X-Men cartoon from 1992 admittedly didn't age well, as it looks really crappy compared to modern cartoons, but back then it was a really big deal, especially if you were into comic books, but this stop-motion recreation of its kick-ass intro by Kyle Roberts and Nathan Poppe makes it look refreshing, and the theme song remake is equally awesome:

New Trailer for Doctor Who Christmas Special: The Snowmen

A new trailer has been released for the upcoming Doctor Who Christmas Special: The Snowmen, featuring a glimpse of the action-packed story as the doctor, who has already retired after losing Amy and Rory, finds himself in the middle of another sinister plot involving monsters - this time made out of snow - and a mad doctor.

Power Rangers Returns to Dinosaur Theme

It's arguable that the height of Power Rangers' popularity in North America reached its peak during Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, so it's no wonder that Bandai is looking to revisit its Dinosaur theme for the 37th entry in their long-running Super Sentai series, Juuden Sentai Kyoryuger.

Bandai's president is actually blaming the dark tone of the last series, Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters for its sub par market performance, so Juuden Sentai Kyoryuger aims to take the series back to a more upbeat, lighthearted format with lots of music and "ridiculously" powerful heroes.

The Kyoryugers are composed of Red, Blue, Green, Black and Pink with Pink being the only female hero and no Yellow included for the first time since 1986's Dengeki Sentai Changeman. This team will pilot five mecha, which form a three-piece main robot with one main body piece and two arms.

Amy Pond’s Doctor Who Exit Will Be Unexpected and Emotional

While promoting her upcoming indie-com “Not Another Happy Ending” at Cannes last week, current Doctor Who companion Karen Gillan sat down with TotalFilm.com and confirmed that her character Amy Pond will be leaving the long running BBC Sci Fi show for good.

Amy Pond’s exit from Doctor Who is not surprising news, since it has been rumored for a long time and talked about by whovians, but what’s interesting is her manner of leaving. Judging by Gillan’s comments, Amy Pond’s final moments in the series is Not Another Happy Ending:

“I literally couldn’t read it without crying,” says Gillan. “It was the most highly charged read-through I’ve ever experienced. But I couldn’t have asked for a better exit. I don’t think it’ll be what people expect.”

Eliza Dushku as She-Hulk?

No, she's not gonna play She-Hulk in a live action movie. We don't believe she has the bulk and mass necessary to portray the role (we'd have to pick MMA Sweetheart Gina Carano if we're talking about an actress playing She-Hulk in live action). Eliza Dushku is going to lend her voice to Bruce Banner's gamma-irradiated cousin, Jennifer Walters, in Disney XD's upcoming Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. series.

At least, that's what rumors say. Disney nor Marvel has not yet confirmed the former Buffy star's participation in the upcoming series. The rumors just started (and for good reason) due to Adrian Pasdar, who's voicing Iron Man in Disney XD's Ultimate Spiderman series, making the following statement:

“The funny thing is if people were to actually visit these animation rooms and see the guys and the girls that are doing it, with the exception of Eliza, who’s a stunning beauty, the rest of us, we don’t look quite as good as the animation characters they draw for us,” Pasdar said in a recent interview with IGN."

That's pretty much confirmation that Eliza Dushku's gonna be in the series, we're just marking it as a rumor because we don't trust TV execs.

Watch this Movie: The Legend of Zelda 80s movie trailer

Well, it's not really an actual movie. It's a trailer, for a fake movie. It's still interesting, though, as it shows you what The Legend of Zelda franchise would look like if it was adapted into an 80s college rom com flick.

The movie has the entire cast of The Legend of Zelda - Link, Zelda, Navi, Midna, Tingle, Ganondorf - playing rom com archtypes. The creators even went so far as to ensure that the trailer looks like it came from an old VHS or Betamax tape.

New Tupac Hologram Isn't Really a Hologram

The Tupac Shakur Hologram that performed alongside Snoop Doog in the recent Coachella may have received overwhelming praise from the Internet, for being such an impressive example of advancements in 3D hologram technology, but it seems that all the praise it got was undeserved if we're basing it on the reasons provided by fans.

The 12th Incarnation of the Doctor Will Be a Woman?

Or to be more specific, "The Woman"?

There are rumors floating around (and that's all they are at this point - rumors.) that BBC execs are considering the idea that after Smith's departure from the long running sci-fi series, the doctor will regenerate into a female timelord played by Lara Pulver, who played The Woman/Irene Adler in BBC's "Sherlock".

The current source of the rumor is the Daily Express, so take it with a grain of salt. The people behind Doctor Who have always been so secretive to the point that even the auditions are done in secret and under a codename (The name Torchwood was originally a codename for the show, with Torchwood being an anagram of Doctor Who).

And even if the rumors are true, you have to pay attention to the words used: "considering". The show's producers are only thinking of the possibility of making the 12th Doctor a Woman. At best, we're probably only getting a single episode in which the producers test our reaction to a female doctor. Like, I dunno, the doctor using the chameleon arch to turn into a woman, or the doctor traveling to the future and seeing what he could become.

Besides, with River Song on the show, we already have an idea of what a female doctor would be like. Lara Pulver will be redundant. If they really want to test people's reaction to a female doctor, do a story arc in which the doctor goes missing, then have River Song take the lead.

Download This Movie - Batman: Seeds of Arkham

Well, not really download, it's more like watch online for free since it's hosted on Youtube. But if the fanmovie Batman: City of Scars left you wanting more, Kevin Porter and Aaron Schonke are back with Batman: Seeds of Arkham, the 8 minute (yeah, it's shorter. Boo!) follow up to their successful City of Scars fanfilm.

Seeds of Arkham picks up where City of Scars left off, with Gotham City thrown into chaos after the death of the clown prince (spoilers!). The fanfilm starts with Batman and (a really, really awesome representation of) the batmobile taking on a group of thugs. We then cut to the villains of Seeds of Arkham, Killer Croc and Poison Ivy, who have teamed up and captured Nightwing. What's their plan, and can Batman take on both Killer Croc and Ivy? You'll have to watch the movie to find out, it's only 8 minutes, dude.

DC Nation: Superman of Tokyo

Cartoon Network's DC Nation is perfect if you're looking for animated shorts about your favorite DC Superheroes, especially ones that are not afraid to poke fun at Superman. This one is called "Superman from Tokyo", in which they try to show what it would look like if Superman grew up in Japan (note that it reuses scenes from a previous DC nation short called "Baby Superman")

Ben 10 is the Jeremy Lin of Superheroes, says the LA Times

The LA Times has recently published an industry profile on Cartoon Network's Ben 10, trying to make sense of what made the Ben 10 franchise so popular even though it originally launched with no existing fan base nor brand awareness to stand on, referring to the cartoon as the Jeremy Lin of superheroes.

If you don't have a young boy at home or not one yourself, you may find the LA Times' fascination with Ben 10's success a bit ridiculous. I admit that I wasn't really that familiar with the series at first. I mean, I've seen the commercials and the toys during one of my channel surfing jaunts, but I just brushed the series off as one of those shows they create to sell toys and merchandise. What I didn't know is how MANY toys and merchandise they were able to sell with the franchise.

Let me put it in the context of blogs and websites - I work for an entertainment site (what, you think I'm actually earning from this blog?). It's not one of the big entertainment sites, but it's popular enough to make money off the ads. And believe me, we get a daily average of 4,000 unique views from people who happened upon the site while searching for things related to Ben 10. And that's the daily average - there are times when the unique views for Ben 10 stuff would reach 12,000+. That's a lot of unique views, for one show. About a kid who can transform into different kinds of aliens.

Anyways, you can go directly to the LA Times article, I'll be reading as well. I want to know what made Ben 10 so popular. I want 12 thousand people googling my name too.

Spoilers! The River s1 ep08: Row, Row, Row Your Boat

I really hope a lot of people (particularly Nielsen families) watched this ep, just to convince ABC execs that the show needs more seasons - but if it is really The River's final episode, at least it went out on a high note.

I'm not really bragging or anything, I just copy and pasted the spoilers from the original leakrat, after all. But I'm just saying, I gots your hook up. I'm not going to post fan speculation or anything - when I say spoilers, I mean it. OR at least, I really believe I mean it. Yeah, so this week, Walking Dead's Season Finale has come and gone. But I still have The River's season ender to tide me over (someone dies next week, killed by a crew of the Magus. I'm thinking the killer is Capt. Kurt Brynildson - SPOILERS), but what about next week? What shows can I watch? When's that Doctor Who 7th season going to start anyway? I heard Karen Gillan's still in it (that's a curveball for most fans who were bombarded with news about the Ponds leaving Doctor Who. HAH! The Ponds are leaving the TARDIS. But they're still in the show)

AMC's Walking Dead SEASON FINALE SPOILERS

But unlike Hendricks and Munn, Morris cannot deny that the sensitive(re: nude) pictures included in the leaked set of photos are fake, since the shots include her face.

ABC's The River

Anybody watch Oren Peli's The River on ABC? I initially started watching it out of curiosity. I was expecting a TV mockumentary (considering Oren Peli's Paranormal Activity as a template) that will easily overstay its welcome, but it proved to be so much more. Some people are comparing it to Lost, but I have never watched a single Lost episode (though I've read several episode summaries) so I can't honestly make a decent comparison. But still...The River. It's awesome.
