Great news for Harry Potter fans. Pottermore.com, the online hub based on JK Rowling's Harry Potter universe, will finally debut for everyone in early April 2012. The service was originally launched as a Beta in summer 2011 by Sony and Rowling, with plans for a full release in October of that same year. Unfortunately, the feedback from Beta users prompted the developers to delay the launch, after their original platform proved to be unsuitable for the overwhelming number of users.
"... it became clear that our original platform wouldn't be suitable when millions more users came on to the site. So we made a big decision: to move Pottermore to an entirely different platform set up."
The change will be completely invisible to users, since it is all server side. But there are plans to include exclusive content and other features to Pottermore.com, which will please longtime fans of the series. Pottermore.com will also be used to sell the eBook and digital audio versions of the Harry Potter books, though there are no dates so far as to when the audio and e-books will be made available for purchase.
